About
Primula scotica (Al), the Scotch bird's eye primrose, is a tiny, biennial or short-lived alpine-section perennial native to the far north of Scotland, producing a compact rosette of mealy-coated leaves and umbels of vivid purple flowers with a yellow eye on short stems in early summer. A rare native gem for a cool, moist, well-drained rock garden.
About the genus
Primula are herbaceous or semi-evergreen perennials forming rosettes of simple leaves and producing salver-shaped, bell-shaped or funnel-shaped flowers, solitary or in umbels or whorls on erect stems. An enormously varied genus ranging from compact alpines to stately border perennials.
