A large, evergreen shrub or small tree to about 8m tall from Japan and Korea with broadly elliptic, leathery, dark green leaves, pendulous racemes of small, white, urn-shaped flowers in spring, and small, blue-black, edible berries in autumn. An ornamental and adaptable shrubby tree for a sheltered, partly shaded woodland garden.
