About

A small, solitary barrel or globose cactus to about 15cm tall from rocky habitats in western North America, with prominent spiralling ribs bearing dense clusters of white, pink, or yellow spines, and small, cup-shaped flowers in spring ranging from white to pink or yellow, followed by dry, papery fruits. A choice and hardy cactus for a sunny, sharply-drained rock garden or alpine house.
