A deciduous, spiny shrub to about 2m tall from Afghanistan and the western Himalaya with broadly ovate, dark green leaves and arching racemes of small, yellow flowers in spring, followed by small, red, egg-shaped berries in autumn. An ornamental and hardy Berberis for a mixed shrub border or informal hedge.
