A compact, mat-forming, evergreen succulent from dry, rocky habitats in the western United States (named after botanist John Leiberg), with small, fleshy, spoon-shaped, pale green leaves in flat rosettes and short, erect stems bearing clusters of small, star-shaped, yellow to golden-yellow flowers in summer. A choice, drought-tolerant rock garden or alpine trough plant.

Ostryopsis includes herbaceous and sometimes woody species grown for their ornamental merit. The genus is represented in gardens by selected species and cultivars suited to a range of growing conditions
