Sonnenwende' is an erect herbaceous perennial or biennial up to 60cm high with red-tinged stems, lance-shaped to ovate, toothed, purplish green leaves up to 11cm long, and red buds opening to golden yellow flowers, 2.5-5cm across, open during the day, from early to late summer.
