A compact, evergreen shrub to about 1m from rocky habitats in the Juan Fern�ndez Islands off Chile, with broadly ovate, dark green, toothed leaves and clusters of small, yellow, daisy-like flowerheads in summer. A rare botanical curiosity for a sheltered, mild garden or conservatory.

About the genus

Nothofagus is a genus of southern hemisphere, deciduous or evergreen, trees with similarities to the northern Fagus (beech), but differing in their very short-stalked, usually much smaller leaves, and the male and female flowers being solitary or in threes rather than grouped
