Nandina domestica, heavenly bamboo, is a small, upright, elegant evergreen shrub to around 2 m with a bamboo-like habit and compound leaves of lance-shaped leaflets � purple-red when young and in winter, turning vivid scarlet in cold weather. Small, white flowers appear in large panicles in summer, followed by showy red berries. An ornamental and architectural shrub for a sheltered, sunny or partly shaded border.

About the genus

Nandina are erect, evergreen shrubs with pinnate to tripinnate leaves of lance-shaped leaflets that colour beautifully in autumn and winter, and panicles of small, star-shaped, white flowers followed by bright-red fruits.
