Muscari neglectum, the common grape hyacinth, is a bulbous perennial to 30 cm producing narrow, arching, green leaves that first appear in autumn and erect stems bearing dense spikes of egg-shaped flowers to 7 mm long in spring. The upper flowers are pale to mid-blue, the lower ones deep violet to blackish-blue. A reliable and naturalising spring bulb for a sunny, well-drained border.
