About
A deciduous, clump-forming, small maple to about 5m from the Ryukyu Islands of Japan, with bronze-green when young, then dark green, broadly ovate, unlobed or shallowly three-lobed leaves resembling mulberry (morifolium), turning golden-yellow with red tints in autumn. A rare and choice small ornamental tree for a sheltered, partially shaded position in a mild garden.

Meconopsis can be annuals, biennials, evergreen or herbaceous perennials, often monocarpic, with rosettes of hairy leaves and bowl-shaped flowers that may be solitary on a leafless stem, or in racemes or panicles on a leafy stem
