A medium-sized, evergreen shrub or small tree to about 6m tall from New Zealand with broadly ovate, glossy, bright green leaves (lucida = shining) and tiny, yellow-green flowers, male and female on separate plants, followed on female plants by small, dark purple berries. A handsome and attractive foliage shrub for a sheltered, mild garden or cool glasshouse.

Luzuriaga is a small genus of semi-woody trailing perennial herbs from Chile, Peru, the Falkland Islands and New Zealand; the wiry stems are capable of producing roots, enabling them to climb. White flowers are followed by colourful fleshy fruits
