An evergreen, semi-spiny shrub or small tree from the Himalaya and western China with narrowly oblong, leathery, dark green, spine-toothed leaves and small, yellow flowers in spring, followed by dark blue-black berries. A dense, structural and useful Berberis for a mixed shrub border or wildlife hedge.

About the genus

Lagotis includes herbaceous and sometimes woody species grown for their ornamental merit. The genus is represented in gardens by selected species and cultivars suited to a range of growing conditions
