Hyacinthoides non-scripta, the English bluebell, is a vigorous, clump-forming bulbous perennial 20�40 cm tall with linear, glossy, dark-green leaves to 45 cm long. Erect stems bear arching racemes of narrowly tubular, intensely fragrant, mid-blue to violet-blue flowers in spring � among the most evocative of all wild spring flowers, carpeting ancient woodlands in a breathtaking blue haze.
