About the genus

Hoya are evergreen perennials that frequently grow as twining climbers. They feature simple, leathery foliage and produce fragrant flowers characterized by five waxy, spreading petals. After flowering, they develop slender, spindle-like pods that contain numerous small seeds surrounded by abundant silky fibers.
