About
Haastia pulvinaris, vegetable sheep, is one of the most extraordinary plants of the New Zealand mountains forming a dense, hard, woolly, white-grey cushion to 1.5 m across, resembling from a distance a sheep lying on the mountainside. Tiny, cream-coloured, daisy-like flowerheads are embedded in the surface. A rare and challenging specialist alpine for an alpine house.
About the genus
Haastia are densely woolly, cushion-forming perennials from the mountains of New Zealand, growing among rocks at high altitude. They are among the most remarkable of all cushion alpines and are specialist plants for an alpine house.
