A geographical variety of R. arboreum subsp. delavayi from Yunnan, China, forming a large evergreen shrub or small tree with long, elliptic, dark green leaves with a buff or fawn indumentum beneath, and dense, rounded trusses of deep pink to red, bell-shaped flowers in early spring. A magnificent species rhododendron for a mild, sheltered woodland garden.
