Rhapidophyllum

Rhapidophyllum hystrix is a compact palm that grows slowly, typically reaching a maximum height of around 1.5 meters. It features multiple stems that emerge from a single base, adorned with glossy, fan-shaped leaves that exhibit a deep green hue on the upper surface and a silvery-gray tone underneath. The stems are armed with long spines, which can extend up to 25 centimeters. Flowers, which are produced infrequently, are purplish-brown and often concealed by the spines. After flowering, both hermaphrodite and female plants bear round seeds that range in color from red to brown.
