Pseudocydonia

Pseudocydonia sinensis is a versatile plant that can grow as a sprawling shrub reaching heights of up to 6 meters or, in regions with prolonged warm summers, develop into a tree that can attain 18 meters. Its distinctive flaking bark displays a mix of olive green, brown, and grey tones. The leaves are oval-shaped, finely serrated, and glossy dark green, measuring between 5 and 10 centimeters in length. These leaves are typically deciduous but may exhibit semi-evergreen characteristics, showing a red hue in spring before transitioning to vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red before they drop. In spring, the plant produces fragrant, cup-shaped pink blossoms that are 3 to 4 centimeters wide. Following the heat of summer, it yields edible, aromatic fruits that are egg-shaped, measuring 5 to 18 centimeters long. These fruits begin as green and ripen to a yellow hue by autumn.
