Orostachys is a group of low-growing perennial plants that create compact rosettes made up of short, thick leaves. In summer or autumn, upright stems emerge, bearing clusters of star-shaped blooms. After flowering, the individual rosettes will perish.

In late summer, mature rosettes generate conical clusters of creamy yellow or white flowers from their center. After the flowering period, the original rosettes will die, making way for the offsets that continue to grow.

Orostachys spinosa is a perennial that develops rosettes of grey-green foliage, with leaves reaching widths of up to 10 cm.
