Lessertia diffusa

Lessertia frutescens is an evergreen shrub characterized by its slender branching and feathery, grey-green foliage composed of elongated leaflets. It produces racemes of vivid red, pea-shaped blooms measuring between 3 to 5 cm in length. After flowering, the plant develops seed capsules that are pink-tinged and can grow up to 5 cm long, resembling small bladders.

This genus comprises approximately 62 species of primarily perennial herbs or subshrubs belonging to the legume family, indigenous to eastern and southern Africa. Characterized by slender, silvery grey-green leaflets that are divided, they produce racemes bearing pea-like flowers in shades ranging from bright orange to red, which are succeeded by inflated, papery seeds.
