Lagenaria

Lagenaria siceraria is a robust, annual vine that can reach heights of approximately 9 meters. It features large, heart-shaped leaves that add a tropical touch to any garden. Throughout the summer and autumn, elongated, green bottle-shaped gourds develop, which are primarily used for decorative purposes. To prevent the gourds from flattening against the ground, it is advisable to train the plant up a wall or trellis. Once dried, the gourds can be transformed into functional birdhouses by drilling a hole for entry and a few drainage holes.
