The base of the newly formed pseudobulb is partially enveloped by two pairs of green leaf-like sheaths. Flowering occurs from early summer through autumn on arching stems that can reach lengths of 40 to 60 centimeters. These new flowering stems develop from the axils of the young, mature pseudobulbs and from the leaf sheaths, bearing as many as 15 flowers. The uniquely shaped blooms are characterized by a yellow hue accented with dark brown-red spots, and their long, slender petals and sepals contribute to a resemblance to a spider.
