A large and diverse genus of evergreen, conical conifers from North America and Asia with a gracefully drooping leading shoot, dense tiers of horizontal branches bearing short, flattened, dark green needles with two white bands beneath, and small, pendant, ovoid cones. Hemlock spruces are ornamental specimen conifers for moist, sheltered, cool woodland conditions.
