A large, dense, evergreen shrub to about 2m from China with broadly elliptic to obovate, smooth-edged (sublevis = slightly smooth), dark green leaves and clusters of small, pale yellow flowers in spring, followed by blue-black berries. A handsome ornamental barberry for a large mixed shrub border.
