About

A genus of tufted or spreading perennials and biennials from western Europe and the Mediterranean, with grassy or strap-shaped basal leaves and rounded, pincushion-like heads of small, blue to violet, star-shaped flowers in summer. The common sheep's-bit (J. montana) is a delicate wildflower; several forms are grown in rock gardens for sunny, well-drained positions.
