About

Ficus elastica 'Decora', the broad-leaved Indian rubber plant, is a popular cultivar producing large, broadly oval, glossy rich-green leaves with pale reddish undersides and an ivory-white midrib on the upper side. One of the most widely grown and ornamental of all rubber plant cultivars for a large indoor space or conservatory.

About the genus

Ficus, the figs, are a large, diverse genus of evergreen or deciduous trees, shrubs and climbers producing leathery leaves and tiny flowers inside a hollow receptacle that develops into the characteristic fig fruit. They include important food crops, dramatic ornamental specimens and popular houseplants.

Care notes

CultivationGrow in houseplant compost in bright but filtered or indirect light. During growth water moderately and apply a high nitrogen fertiliser every month; water sparingly in winter. Topdress annually and repot every 2-3 years. See ornamental fig cultivation for more advice
