About

Euphorbia abyssinica, the Abyssinian spurge, is a tree-like succulent often reaching 10 m in its native Africa but more commonly grown as a conservatory or houseplant in cooler climates. The deeply ribbed, wavy-edged stems bear pairs of short spines, and when conditions are favourable small, narrow leaves may emerge from the stem tips. Small, yellowish flowers are followed by orange-red fruits. A dramatic architectural plant for a heated greenhouse or conservatory.

About the genus

Euphorbia, the spurges, are an extraordinarily diverse genus of annuals, perennials, shrubs and succulents producing milky sap and small flowers held within cupped, often brightly coloured bracts. They range from tiny alpine cushions and giant tree-like succulents to familiar garden perennials and houseplants.
