A sturdy, herbaceous perennial to about 1.5m tall from wooded slopes in New Zealand with large, broadly ovate, leathery, dark green leaves and dense, drooping spikes of small, greenish-white flowers followed by clusters of bright red berries. A bold and handsome New Zealand endemic for a sheltered, mild, partly shaded garden.
