About

A compact, tufted, herbaceous perennial from high montane meadows in western China and the Himalaya, with small, rosette-forming, ovate to linear, mid-green leaves and short, erect stems bearing solitary, tubular to bell-shaped, deep violet-blue to purplish flowers with faint green spotting (ternifolia, with leaves in threes) in autumn. A choice, autumn-flowering gentian for a moist, acidic rock garden.
