About

Echeveria _ gilva, the wax rosette, is a neat, evergreen hybrid succulent forming rosettes to 15 cm across of smooth, fleshy, pale-green leaves tinted red in strong light or cold conditions. In summer, erect stems to 30 cm bear small clusters of pale-pink flowers with yellow tips. A popular and attractive echeveria for sunny windowsills and frost-free borders.

About the genus

Echeveria are evergreen succulent perennials or subshrubs from Mexico and Central America producing rosettes of colourful, fleshy leaves in shades of grey, green, blue, pink, red and purple, and racemes or panicles of small, urn-shaped, red, orange or yellow flowers on tall stems in summer.

Care notes

CultivationIn frost-free areas, may be grown outside in free draining soil in full sun. In colder areas, grow under glass or in containers that can be overwintered in a frost-free greenhouse. Use a free-draining potting mix suitable for cacti and succulents. Water moderately when in growth and sparingly in winter, do not allow to sit in water.
