About

Dionaea muscipula, the Venus flytrap, is a fascinating, rosette-forming carnivorous perennial producing flat, green, clasping leaf-stalks ending in a hinged, 2 cm trap edged with stiff interlocking bristles, often flushed pink or red inside. Small, white flowers are borne in clusters on stems above the leaves in summer. The trap snaps shut when trigger hairs inside are touched twice in quick succession, digesting the insect prey within. A remarkable and captivating plant for a sunny, moist, nutrient-poor growing medium.
