About

Dictamnus albus, dittany or burning bush, is a stately, woody-based, aromatic perennial to 1.2 m tall with aromatic, deep-green leaves divided into tapering leaflets and long, slender spikes of white or pink-purple flowers 2.5 cm across in early summer. In hot, dry weather the volatile oils produced by the plant can briefly ignite the origin of its 'burning bush' common name. A long-lived and ornamental border perennial.

About the genus

Dictamnus are woody-based, aromatic perennials from southern Europe and Asia with erect stems bearing pinnate leaves and terminal racemes of five-petalled, white or purple flowers in early summer. Long-lived and ornamental border plants.
