Desmodium elegans var. elegans, the elegant tick trefoil, is a deciduous sub-shrub to around 1.5 m with pinnate, three-leaflet leaves and loose clusters of pink to lilac, pea-like flowers from midsummer to early autumn, followed by segmented seed pods that adhere to clothing and fur. An ornamental and rewarding sub-shrub for a sunny, sheltered, well-drained border.
