Dennstaedtia punctilobula, the hay-scented fern, is a spreading, deciduous terrestrial fern from eastern North America producing arching, triangular, lacy fronds that emit a pleasant hay-like scent when brushed. An excellent ground-cover fern for a moist, shaded or partly shaded border.

About the genus

Dennstaedtia are terrestrial ferns with creeping or erect rhizomes producing large, coarsely divided, lace-like fronds. They grow in moist, shaded conditions in woodland and forest habitats, and are grown as ornamental ferns in sheltered, moist positions.
