About

Dendrobium thyrsiflorum, the raceme dendrobium, is a large epiphytic orchid with fleshy, club-shaped, ribbed pseudobulbs to 45 cm long bearing three to five dark-green, rigid, leathery leaves near their tips. In spring, pendant racemes 1520 cm long carry 1530 white flowers to 5 cm across with a deep-orange to golden-yellow, rounded, fringed lip. A spectacular and rewarding orchid for a warm to intermediate greenhouse.

About the genus

Dendrobium are one of the largest genera of orchids, comprising epiphytic and terrestrial species from tropical and subtropical Asia, Australia and the Pacific. They produce elongated, cane-like or club-shaped pseudobulbs bearing linear to ovate leaves, and racemes of showy flowers from nodes along the stems, mainly in spring and summer. Dendrobium span a huge range of sizes, habits and cultural requirements.
