About
Davidia involucrata var. laeta is a variety of the handkerchief tree with leaves that are hairless beneath (unlike var. involucrata which has hairy leaves), but producing the same spectacular display of large, white, fluttering bracts in late spring. A magnificent ornamental tree.
About the genus
Davidia is a monotypic genus of medium-sized, deciduous trees native to China, producing ovate leaves and small, dark-green flower clusters each subtended by two large, white, unequal bracts the 'handkerchiefs' or 'doves' that give the tree its common names. One of the most spectacular of all ornamental flowering trees.
