About

Davidia involucrata, the handkerchief tree or dove tree, is one of the most spectacular of all flowering trees a moderate-sized, deciduous tree with broadly egg-shaped, lime-green leaves to 15 cm. The tiny, rounded flowerheads are each held within a pair of large, fluttering, creamy-white, unequal bracts to 20 cm long the 'handkerchiefs' or 'doves' that festoon the tree in late spring, making an unforgettable display. One of the treasures of the plant world.

About the genus

Davidia is a monotypic genus of medium-sized, deciduous trees native to China, producing ovate leaves and small, dark-green flower clusters each subtended by two large, white, unequal bracts the 'handkerchiefs' or 'doves' that give the tree its common names. One of the most spectacular of all ornamental flowering trees.
