Darmera peltata, the umbrella plant, is a vigorous, rhizomatous perennial to 1.5 m tall with shining, rounded, peltate leaves to 45 cm across on long stalks that turn red in autumn. Before the leaves emerge in spring, tall stems produce rounded clusters of pale-pink, star-shaped flowers. A bold and dramatic waterside or bog plant for a moist, sheltered position.

Darmera is a monotypic genus of vigorous perennials in the saxifrage family (Saxifragaceae), native to western North America, producing large, rounded, peltate leaves on long stalks and clusters of pink flowers on tall stems in spring before the leaves. Excellent as a bold waterside or bog garden plant.
