About
Daphne mezereum, the mezereon, is a rounded, deciduous shrub to around 1.5 m producing an extraordinary late-winter display � intensely fragrant, purplish-pink to purplish-red flowers are borne in tight clusters directly on the bare twigs before the leaves emerge. Oval, dull blue-green leaves to 9 cm follow, with round, bright-red berries in summer. One of the most valuable of all early-spring-flowering shrubs.

CultivationGrow in moderately fertile, humus-rich, well-drained but not dry soil in sun or part shade. Mulch to keep roots cool. Establishes best if planted in the spring, resents transplanting so do not move once established
