Cryptomeria japonica 'Tenzan-sugi' is a diminutive conifer that grows slowly, reaching a height of approximately 15 cm over a decade. It develops a broad, flat-topped shape with densely packed, needle-like leaves that are prickly to the touch. In spring and summer, the young growth appears pale green, transitioning to a rich deep green as it matures. During the winter months, the foliage takes on a deep reddish-bronze hue.
About the genus
Cryptomeria are substantial evergreen trees characterized by their reddish-brown bark and thick foliage made up of short, awl-shaped leaves that spiral around the branchlets. The cones produced by these trees are round in shape.
