Cryptomeria japonica, the Japanese cedar, is a fast-growing, large, evergreen conifer making a majestic specimen tree of conical habit with distinctive, fibrous, red-brown, peeling bark. The short, awl-shaped, rich-green leaves are spirally arranged in dense clusters on arching branchlets. One of Japan's most important and revered timber trees, and a spectacular garden specimen.
