Cornus kousa 'Milky Way' is a vigorous, spreading small tree that typically reaches heights of 4 to 6 meters. The foliage consists of dark green, ovate leaves that taper to a point and display impressive orange and red hues in the fall. In June, the tree is adorned with large, cream-colored bracts that cluster closely together, creating a dense display. These bracts eventually give way to a profusion of strawberry-like fruit in the autumn. Seedlings labeled with this cultivar name may show variability unless they are sourced from the original 'mother plant.'
About the genus
Cornus includes a variety of deciduous shrubs and trees, as well as prostrate, woody perennials, some featuring vibrant young stems. The small flowers appear in compact clusters, occasionally accompanied by prominent bracts. Several species display attractive foliage in the fall.
