About
Cornus kousa 'Madame Butterfly' is a compact tree, reaching a height of approximately 7 meters. Its dark green foliage transforms into shades of red and purple during the fall season. In early summer, it produces tight clusters of small, greenish flowers, which are encircled by large, creamy-white bracts featuring dark pink tips that arch upward, mimicking the appearance of butterflies. Following the flowering period, the tree yields edible fruit that is deep pink and resembles strawberries.
About the genus
Cornus includes a variety of deciduous shrubs and trees, as well as prostrate, woody perennials, some featuring vibrant young stems. The small flowers appear in compact clusters, occasionally accompanied by prominent bracts. Several species display attractive foliage in the fall.
