About
Cornus kousa 'Beni-fuji' is a compact, spreading tree that typically reaches a height of around 4 meters. Its dark green, oval leaves are characterized by red stems and midribs, transforming into shades of purple and red during the fall. The tree produces tight clusters of small, greenish flowers, which are encircled by pointed bracts in a deep pink hue. This is followed by the development of edible fruit that resembles strawberries, also in a deep pink color.
About the genus
Cornus includes a variety of deciduous shrubs and trees, as well as prostrate, woody perennials, some featuring vibrant young stems. The small flowers appear in compact clusters, occasionally accompanied by prominent bracts. Several species display attractive foliage in the fall.
