About the genus

This genus comprises approximately 27 species of annual and perennial flowering herbs found primarily in the Mediterranean region, Europe, Western Asia, and the Himalayas. These plants are well-suited to rocky environments and scree. They feature linear, oblong, or rounded green leaves and produce hooded flowers in shades of blue to purple that resemble those of snapdragons.
