About

Brassia Eternal Wind gx is a more compact variety compared to its progenitors, B. bracdiana and B. rex. Its leaves can grow up to 35 cm in length, while the flower stems can reach 1 meter tall. Each stem produces as many as 12 elongated flowers, which can measure up to 28 cm long and 8 cm wide. The flowers feature slender petals adorned with chestnut-brown markings and a frilled lip, emitting a pleasant fragrance.

About the genus

Brassia consists of epiphytic orchids that vary in size from small to large. They feature pseudobulbs that are either ovoid or cylindrical, each supporting one to three strap-shaped leaves. These orchids typically produce fragrant flowers, arranged in racemes that can bear as many as 12 spider-like blooms emerging from the bases of the pseudobulbs.

Care notes

Cultivation
Requires day temperatures of 18-29°C and a night minimum of 13°C in good, indirect light. Provide moist, partially shaded, well-ventilated conditions and water freely, applying fertiliser at every third watering and mist twice daily for high humidity; reduce watering in winter and cease watering if temperature falls below 11°C. Re-pot in epiphytic orchid compost every 2-3 years in spring when plant fills and overhangs the pot. See indoor orchid cultivation
Pruning
No pruning required, remove flower spikes after flowering is finished
Propagation
Divide plants with 3 fully grown pseudobulbs in each division at time of re-potting. Tease out roots carefully, only discarding the shrivelled ones.
Pest resistance
May be susceptible to aphids, glasshouse red spider mite and mealybugs
Disease resistance
Generally disease-free
